The Fairest Program

The Fairest of the Fair program was brought to Washington County in 1974. Each year, a resident of Washington County is chosen to serve a one year, volunteer term as an ambassador of the fair and of Washington County. For the competition, contestants partcipate in individual and group interviews, local cable interviews, the stage competition, held the first Tuesday of the fair, and are asked to present a 30 second radio advertisement promoting the fair, which is presented live the night of competition. The Fairest or Ambassador is chosen based on personality, community and school involvement, attitude, speaking ability, and overall impression. This fortunate recipient can be seen throughout the week of the fair, welcoming fair goers, announcing stage shows, and presenting ribbons to 4-Hers. Each year the Fairest has the honor of helping with many events and activities. He or she spends the week of the fair reveling in the fun and merriment the fair has to offer.

But the work doesn’t stop there!  Their term continues throughout the year, and they can be seen on a regular basis at various community activities, 4-H events, and neighborhood parades - always promoting agriculture, the county, and the fair. The Fairest can be seen yearly at community events including Celebrate Families, Breakfast on the Farm, Richfield Lioness Fashion Show, and many others!

She or he also participates at the State Fairest of Fairs Competition. The competition takes place each year in conjunction with the Wisconsin Association of Fairs Convention. In 2010 the Convention was held in the Wisconsin Dells at the Chula Vista Resort. For competition, the county fairests from across the state vie for the title of Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs. The four-day competition involves individual and group interviews, liaising with vendors and attendees, marketing presentations, and an auction, for which the fairest provides items that represent his or her county.
