1974 - Cindy Mergener Fassbender, Slinger "It has been 35 years since the Fairest of the Fair started in Washington County and that makes me feel old! Terry and I are still living in Slinger with our family. Our oldest daughter married and now we have gained another son! Four of our children are still in college, leaving two in high school, and our youngest in middle school. I continue to work at Slinger School as a Food Service Manager for the district. Terry and I stay busy with family and home and try to get away to our favorite spots in the Carribean yearly. We continue to attend the fair every year to see familiar faces and feel that fair fun!" 1975 - Dawn Bastian, Richfield 1976 - Pamela Matenaer Nothem, West Bend 1977 - Anita Marie Lee 1978 - Darlene Hasebrink O'Hara 1979 - Christine Nigh Sprung, Merton 1980 - Catherine Pluta Dremel, Appelton "I am a full-time physician specializing in pediatric and adult physical medicine and rehabilitation. My husband, Tom, is a CPA. We have two children, Luke and Sarah. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, swimming, and scrapbooking. My most memorable moment as Fairest of the Fair is milking a cow in a dress and crown." 1982 - Lisa Badini, Wauwatosa 1983 - Heidi Scadden Miller, Pewaukee 1984 - Barb Radschlag Weber, Hartford 1985 - Monda M. Anderson Hodkiewicz, Lake Geneva 1986 - Adrianne Thull Theusch, Alden, Minnesota "My husband, Ron, and I reside in rural southern Minnesota. We have four children: Liesel, Miranda, Erik, Abbie. They are very energetic and fun, and inquisitive. We thoroughly enjoy living on a small hobby farm. In the past we've raised chickens and ducks. We've expanded our mini-operation to include turkeys. It is quite entertaining to watch them roam around the yard. You have to watch where you step at our place! My most memorable moment as Fairest of the Fair was MCing the chainsaw contest. I didn't know what I was supposed to do or say; they just handed me the microphone!" 1987 - Cynthia Rauh O'Connell, Sun Prairie "I continue to work as a Senior Financial Advisor and Assistant Vice President at M&I Bank in Madison, and I've very busy raising my children, Alexis and Ashley. My youngest is in 4-H in Dane County and I look forward to being a part of that. I remember all the anticipation, excitement, and exhaustion when I was Fairest of the Fair! I recently went to Dane County Breakfast on the Farm and remembered the one I attended as Fairest." 1988 - Beverly VanderVeldon Schulz, Green Bay 1989 - Kathleen Soba Bernard, Richfield 1990 - Bambi Hathaway Otero, Albuquerque, New Mexico "I had the opportunity to study and travel in Spain. Otherwise, I have completed a decade of teaching middle school Spanish, which I love and plan to continue! I met my husband while traveling in Austria five years ago and we are happily married. I remember the old fairgrounds and seeing so many local Slinger folks at every turn. The beautiful new grounds are an important change, but I still have fond memories and nostalgia with respect to our more humble beginnings." 1991 - Diana Buchmann Osberg, New Hope, Minnesota 1992 - Jennifer Degnitz Feider, Kewaskum "I was promoted to a Technical Phlebotomist at the Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. This is a great experience for me because it can use all of my past experience and expertise in this position. In my spare time, I am still an Independent Stampin' Up Demonstrator. In my other spare time, my husband, Rick, and I enjoy fishing, four wheeling, snowmobiling, and spending time with our five dogs. My best memory of being Fairest of the Fair was handing out the buyer's ribbons at the Annual Livestock Sale. I enjoyed watching all the 4-Hers and FFA members' faces while the bidding was going on." |
1993 - Jenny O'Keane, Colgate 1994 - Brenda Pasek, Melbourne, Florida "I teach at Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Florida. I currently coach the girl's cross country team, sponsor for BETA (a service organization) and sponsor of the J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation. As a part-time job I work at a rock climbing gym called On the Edge. My most memorable event as Fairest was representing the county when we hosted Farm Progress Days." 1995 - Stefanie Hefter Kowaleski, Hartford "I am fortunate to spend a lot of time with my husband and daughters, Livia and Ella. Kurt and I took advantage of my travel benefits with Continental Airlines, having traveled to Hawaii and Houston. It's difficult to pick just one memorable moment from my Fairest of the Fair year. I was blessed to have the experience of meeting so many great people who I still enjoy seeing each year at the fair." 1996 - Cindy Wehrman Jakusz, Richfield My husband, Brian, and I enjoy spending time with our son Benjamin. Aside from parenting I work full time as a dentist in Germantown at Dentral Professionals. I love meeting people everyday at the office. I continue to bike, hike, and work on my grandparent's farm. The rooster crowing contest, being active in the developments of the new fairgrounds, and my family's reaction when I won were all my most memorable moments as Fairest of the Fair." 1997 - Stacey Darmody Hockett, East Berlin, Pennsylvania "My hysband, Greg, and I live about 20 minutes northeast of Gettysburg. Greg works for Pella Windows and I work at a local small animal veterinary practice. We both love it out here as there is so much to do and see. We have visited Niagra Falls, Hershey Park, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. " 1998 - Nicollette Moldenhauer Kearns, West Bend "One of my most memorable moments as Fairest of the Fair is being the last Fairest at the Slinger location and being able to crown the new Fairest at the West Bend location. It's been amazing to see the differences between the two sites. Everyone in the community was so supportive and wonderful. It made me proud to live in Washington County!" 1999 - Amanda Tackes, Slinger 2000 - Valerie Hoefert, West Bend "I have been a Ph.D. candidate in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Graduate Schools of the University of WI-Madison. It was one of the most exciting things I have ever done!" 2002 - Kristin Krudwig, West Bend "My favorite memory of my time as Fairest would have to be the small children and the smiles on their faces as they stared in awe at the crown I wore. I loved having the opportunity to meet so many people throughout the year, but I think speaking with children was the most enjoyable part for me." 2003 - Andrea Roth, West Bend "My most memorable moment of the fair was the night of the competition when I was crowned.
